AJAX XAVIER YAN-LEIF
A 7-year-old boy with autism, Ajax perceives and experiences the world in a unique way. While communication can be a challenge, he is observant and capable, defined by his potential rather than his limitations. His arc is one of agency, moving from reliance on AI to forming profound, real-world connections.
ALL-AI
An artificial intelligence device that serves as Ajax’s best friend and a crucial assistive tool. Its malfunction is the inciting incident, designed to explore the ethical question of whether technology can truly replace authentic human (and animal) bonds.
DOG
A stray dog appears who becomes Ajax’s indispensable companion. This character highlights the universal, unconditional love pets offer, showcasing a deep, wordless bond that is central to the story’s emotional core.

He’s worked on action, sci-fi, and animation, but “Kappa” is personal. Part of its heart comes from his own son, who is on the autism spectrum and sees the world with a kind of wonder most adults forget. That perspective helped inspire the soul of this film.

Vivian Syc took the long road to filmmaking, and Kappa became the story where everything finally came together. As her first original work, it’s the project that means the most to her—a mix of the unknown, the magical, and the parts of herself she grew into along the way.

Buckle up! Filmmaking is a long game.
June 2025
While the idea of an animation featuring a boy and a dog on an adventure has been on the board for years, in Feb 2025, the full story and social advocacy direction came together. By June, concept arts were ready. In Sept 2025, a 107-page screenplay was complete.
October 2025
The team has been building behind this project for over two years. Artists of all backgrounds are continuously signing onto the project, including the involvement of Dasein Academy of Arts, where students will contribute concept art to the pre-production process of Kappa. This ambitious animation feature will take up countless man-hour of creative thinking and execution.
December 2025
The film industry is complicated, even more so from our region. There are limited players and few decision makers who determine where funds go. We believe the audience knows better what type of films they want to watch in the cinema – one that they are a part of and makes a difference. Kappa is seeking a boost from ordinary folks who would want to see Kappa made.
2026 Goals
XZV Studio as the lead producer and creator responsible for Kappa holds all necessary credentials and licences for submissions globally on WIP initiatives, including Malaysia's very own rebates, grants and fund matching program. It's just that we need funds to request for support – that's how the biz works. So we're raising initial funds with the public to enter the film markets for financing support. Meanwhile, we will transition from pre-production to production.

AUTISM AWARENESS
Artists and students working on Kappa will gain knowledge from psychologists and specialized centers involved in autism education and care.
ANIMAL WELFARE, SAFETY
Artists and students will work with animal shelters and pet training facilities to better understand the needs and care of animals.
