XZV Studio x Dasein Academy of Art is more than just a collaboration, it is a bridge between the classroom and real industry experience.

After 14 weeks of hard work, creativity and contribution, our first batch of concept art with Dasein Academy of Art has run its course. With the concept art submissions we received, it gave us new perspectives and fresh eyes on the project.
We covered world-building, character creations and storytelling in the previous workshops. Working on these submissions lets the students put what they learnt to test. The submissions included ideation, development and finalization.
We saw their thought process through mindmaps, their journey through development and their creative outcome by bringing their ideas to life in the finalization stage. It was more than just world and character-building, it also challenged the students to build a creative journey that can be translated into the real world.

Why do we do this? Collaborations like this close the gap between theory and practice. It gives students a preview of the potential industry workforce. It lets them understand how the skills they learned in class can translate in the real world–or in this case, the animation world. Which is important as animation is one of the most prominent sectors within Malaysia’s creative economy.
This wasn’t just a learning experience for the students. It’s trial and error. It was also a learning experience for the studio to see how we can better support future institutional collaborations. We now understand what needs to be implemented to help students to create stronger concept art. An organized system for the students means concept art that better aligns with what the team is looking for. A win-win for everyone.
Lastly, the end of Batch 1 is not the conclusion, but it marks the beginning of our next batch. Thank you everyone for your hard work. We can’t wait to see what the next batch has in store for us. Don’t forget to follow XZV Studio on Instagram for more updates!
